Four Outdated Laptop Features that Are Making Laptops Look Obsolete

Tablets, smartphones, handheld devices, and ultra-portable laptops are making laptops look less practical by the day and could replace laptops in the near future. Following are several laptop features that are starting to make laptops look obsolete.Acer eMachines D640G(P321G32Mn) Laptop
The Clamshell
Since the dawn of the laptop over 20 years ago, it has always had one distinguishable design trait: the clamshell. In order to use a laptop, you've always had to pry it open to reveal its screen and keyboard, but nowadays tablets and cell phones pride themselves on being easily accessible - making the use of laptops less practical. It's just too easy to pull out a tablet or access the internet on your cell phone instead of pulling out your laptop and "jimmying" the dang thing open.
Mechanical Keyboards
So far, we've grown used to using mechanical (button) keyboards, but lots of new innovations like SWYPE, the QWERTY touchpad keyboard, and even Dragon Naturally Speaking is starting to make mechanical keyboards look like something out of the olden days. The mechanical keyboard is the main component behind the laptop's outdated clamshell design and as keyboards become more innovative, the laptop's mechanical keyboard may become a thing of the past.
The Battery
Laptop batteries are big, bulky, add to the laptop's weight, only last for a few hours, and are known to overheat. Battery life is one of the most complained about features of modern day laptops and even the longest lasting laptop batteries (6-8 hours) pale in comparison to modern day tablets that more than triple the lifetime of modern day laptops. External laptop batteries are killing the modern day laptop and seeing how cell phones, tablets, and other handheld devices are able to last longer than laptops without the added hassle of overheating and adding weight, it's hard to understand why current laptops haven't got with the times.
Laptops have gotten smaller over the years as notebooks, and even netbooks, have become more commonplace in the market and are becoming less expensive, but the size and design of current laptops could still shrink down a bit. The standard laptop screen's size is still around 15.6 inches and that's becoming way too large for the active lifestyle of modern day computer users - making it more practical to reach for a tablet or netbook when you're out on the go.
